In praise of the slow steep

Almost everything has been made faster. Powders that dissolve on contact. The promise of something happening before the kettle has even boiled.

We went the other way. WOOSA uses whole dried herbs, the kind you can see and hold, prepared the way they have been for generations. They take a few minutes to open in hot water. We think that is part of the point.

The waiting is not wasted time. It is the ritual starting. Steam begins to rise. The room softens. Your shoulders come down a little before your feet have even touched the water.

Something made quickly is easy to rush past. Something that asks for five minutes of steeping asks you to be there for it. To stand at the basin, breathe in the warmth, and let the day begin to loosen its grip.

Slow is not a flaw we are apologising for. It is the whole design.
